BurnBanBurn Restrictions Have Been Modified in Skagit County
Due to the increase in fuel moisture levels and available fire resources, the Fire Marshal’s Office will modify the burn ban as of Thursday, August 28, 2008 at 8:00 am for the unincorporated areas of Skagit County, to allow recreational burning only. Recreational fires are less then 3 feet in diameter and 2 feet high, used for cooking or pleasure. (more)

Marine Recovery Comment Period Extended
At the Marine Recovery Area Public Hearing held August 19, 2008 at the Commissioner’s Hearing Room the Board of Health extended the comment period to 4:30 p.m. Friday, August 22, 2008.

Lum Hired as New Director of Skagit County Youth & Family Services
Skagit County Administrator Gary Rowe announced today that John C. Lum of Elk Grove, California has accepted the position of Director of Skagit County Youth & Family Services. (more)
Health Code Adoption Ordinance Meeting Notice
Skagit County's Board of Health “Health Code Process Ordinance” public hearing has been rescheduled to July 22, 2008 at 9:30 a.m.
in the Commissioner's Hearing room.  The proposed new section of Skagit County Code, Chapter 12, delineates the process by which Health codes are adopted.(more)

Skagit County Reaches Tentative Global Settlement With Solid Waste Companies Deluxe And Cimarron
On June 24, 2008, Skagit County reached a tentative settlement agreement with private solid waste operators Deluxe Recycling and Disposal LLC and Cimarron Transfer and Recycling Company LLC. Both companies are pursuing litigation against the County over the issue of solid waste privatization.(more)

Survey Ranks Skagit County 5th Nationally with Outstanding Use of Technology
The Center for Digital Government has completed this year's evaluation of America's top digital county governments. Skagit County was ranked 5th for Counties with less than 150,000 population. (more)

County Commissioners take action on Bayview Ridge Subarea Plan
The Skagit County Board of Commissioners voted unanimously to approve revisions to the Bayview Ridge Subarea Plan today during their regular session in four separate actions.(more)

Skagit County officials express disappointment over lawsuit challenging Skagit River Instream Flow Rule by Swinomish Tribal Community
The 2006 Skagit River Instream Flow Rule puts a strict limit on exempt wells and guarantees adequate instream flows for salmon, and has been widely praised as a model for other jurisdictions to follow.(more)

Arsenic Information
Most arsenic in drinking water comes from natural rock formations. As water flows through these formations, it can dissolve arsenic and carry it into underground aquifers, streams or rivers that may be used as drinking water supplies.(more on the Drinking Water Web Site)
