Frequently Asked Questions

  • How are sandbagging materials requested?
    • Skagit County government agencies, local Dike Districts and Fire Districts have personnel monitoring areas at-risk of flooding. They will request sandbagging materials from the Emergency Operations Center (EOC).
  • Do members of the public need to request sandbags for their local area?
    • No, Dike District and County personnel will be monitoring and requesting resources as needs arise.
  • What should the public expect once a sandbagging request has been sent to the EOC?
    • Please refer to the Sandbag Supply Locations table above to find your nearest location. This is where materials will be available for pickup. In some cases, sandbags may already be filled and ready for pickup. Otherwise, volunteers may be asked to help fill bags. Necessary materials will be provided. Individuals can pick up sandbags and take them to areas of concern. Sandbags can weigh 30-50 lbs.
  • How do I know if sandbags are available at my nearest location?
    • Please contact the locations listed in the table above.
  • How much do sandbags cost?
    • There is no charge for sandbags. They are provided to the public by our local Dike Districts and the US Army Corps of Engineers.
  • How do I volunteer to help fill sandbags?
    • Please keep an eye on the Skagit County website and social media pages for requests for volunteers.
