FOOD HANDLER'S CARDS
(Also known as Food Worker's Cards)

Who Needs a Food Handler's Card?
Food Handlers cards are required for any employee in a food service establishment. Grocery checkers and managers of packaged food stores are included in this definition.

Where do I get a Food Handler's Card?
Cards can be obtained at the Skagit County Health Department, Monday through Friday, 8:30 - 3:00. Be alert to our holiday and county closure day schedule. We no longer offer training off-site.

What do I have to do?
There is a 30 -minute video that you need to watch, and then you will need to take a 32-question multiple-choice test.

How much does it cost?
$10 once you past the test. We accept cash, check or debit card.

How long is it good for?

  • The first time you get a Food Handler's card, it is good for 2 years.
  • IF you renew your card before it expires, you can get a card that is good for 3 years. IF it is past the expiration date of your card, you will only be able to obtain a 2-year card.
  • IF you bring in a certificate from an approved Additional Food Safety Training obtained within the last two years, you are eligible for a 5-year card.

YOU MUST STILL WATCH THE VIDEO AND TAKE THE TEST EVEN WHEN RENEWING YOUR FOOD HANDLER'S CARD
