Pot Belly Stove One of the most popular places in the general store was by the potbelly stove. On a cool morning or frosty day, the stove's warmth would fill the room. This stove may have used wood. It was the most available fuel here in the Pacific Northwest. Once in a while, though, a coal-burning stove could be found, probably in a community where coal was being mined. A stove such as this sold from $2.40 to $3.90 depending on the weight and height of the stove. A pot stove with a diameter of 12" weighed about 70 lbs. A stove such as this could be ordered from at catalogue such as Sears. Parts were sold at the general stove. |
