Post Office in a Store

The general store was a place to buy food, order tools for the farm, meet neighbors, and get the mail. Not all general stores had a post office-there could be only one post office for each community of 50 or more people-but having one could help business greatly. Everyone wanted mail or had someone they wanted to whom to write.
The post office boxes, grill, and window above are from the Blanchard Post Office. It opened in 1886 and was in continuous use until 1971 when all mail was transferred to Bow.
