Guemes Island Ferry will be out of service March 28 to May 22, 2011
SKAGIT COUNTY
- The Guemes Island Ferry will be out of service from approximately March
28 to May 22, 2011 during the Ferry Dock Rehabilitation Project construction
period.
The ferry docks at both Anacortes and Guemes Island are in need of girder
replacement due to significant corrosion, cracking, and spalling from years
of salt water exposure. The main construction for the Dock Rehabilitation
Project is expected to take 8-10 weeks to complete. Construction crews have
already begun work at the Guemes Island terminal driving pile for the temporary
shoring, and the temporary floats for pedestrian access; however, ferry ridership
will not be affected until March 28, 2011.
During this
time, a passenger-only ferry will be in service from Cap Sante Boat Haven
(1019 Q Ave., Anacortes, WA, 98221) in Anacortes to a temporary floating dock
(west of the ferry landing) at Guemes Island. This is a free service.
Parking is
available at the Cap Sante Boat Haven in Anacortes. Additional long-term parking
is available at Skagit County's parking lot, at 6th Street and K Avenue, in
Anacortes. Due to limited parking on Guemes Island, a Skagit Transit bus will
be on the Island to assist with transportation needs.
Skagit County
will also provide a temporary barge service that will deliver garbage, propane,
fuel, and grocery services to Guemes Island during the outage.
