The Disaster Recovery Center will be open Monday, February 23, 2009 through Thursday, February 26, 2009. Hours of operation will be from 9:00 a.m. until 7:00 p.m. each day.
Individuals who are unable to access the Disaster Recovery Center during the above-listed dates and times can visit the Whatcom County Disaster Recovery Center at 405 East Champion Street, Bellingham, WA. The Whatcom County DRC will be open through Saturday, February 28, 2009; hours of operation will be from 9:00 a.m. to 7:00 p.m. each day.
Homeowners, renters, and business owners can receive information about disaster assistance programs available to them following the recent flooding and landslides that occurred in Skagit County from January 6, 2009 until January 16, 2009.
Individuals are strongly encouraged to register with FEMA before they visit the Disaster Recovery Center and need to bring their FEMA Application Number with them to the DRC. Individuals that are not able to pre-register via telephone or the Internet may register with FEMA for federal assistance at the Disaster Recovery Center. FEMA has an Applicants Guide containing information about the disaster assistance process that can be found on the FEMA web site at http://www.fema.gov/pdf/assistance/process/help_after_disaster_english.pdf
Individuals and businesses MUST REGISTER WITH FEMA to be eligible for federal assistance. Reporting damage to local officials does not register residents and business owners with FEMA! To apply for FEMA assistance, call 1-800-621-FEMA (3362) or TTY 1-800-462-7585, between 8 a.m. and 8 p.m., seven days a week until further notice. Multilingual operators are available to answer your call. Those with Internet access can apply on-line at www.disasterassistance.gov.
Registration is the required first step in the federal disaster assistance process. Registration is open until March 31, 2009. To register, people should be prepared to provide the following information:
§ Zip Code of the affected property.
§ Date damage was sustained.
§ Social Security Number and contact information.
§ Gross income.
§ Insurance information.
§ Directions to the affected property.
When registering by telephone, allow between 20 and 30 minutes and be prepared to record your FEMA Application Number. Do not lose this number as you will need it throughout the process.
