Groundbreaking Ceremony scheduled for Transfer and Recycling Station Project
SKAGIT COUNTY - The Skagit County Public Works Department will host a groundbreaking ceremony to celebrate the launch of the Transfer and Recycling Station Project. The ceremony will take place on March 1, 2011 at 2:00 p.m. at the Transfer and Recycling Station located at 14104 Ovenell Road in Mount Vernon.
In an effort to provide the public with a more efficient solid waste and recycling facility, Skagit County will make a multitude of improvements to the existing complex, including construction of pre-engineered metal buildings totaling approximately 31,000 square feet that will house the transfer station, office space, maintenance shop, scale house and temporary pay booth. The project will also include a new pre-load compactor, demolition of several minor structures, installation of new vehicle scales, construction of roads and retaining walls, and a new public recycling drop-off area. Skagit County anticipates the project will be completed by the spring of 2012.
Transfer Station staff are working to minimize the impact of construction activities but delays and traffic congestion are anticipated to occur during the construction project. Informational materials detailing disposal alternatives are available at the Transfer Station scale house.
