Revised: Clean Samish Initiative Town Hall meeting rescheduled for March 23, 5:30 - 7:00 p.m.

SKAGIT COUNTY - On March 23, Skagit County will host a Town Hall meeting to discuss the Clean Samish Initiative (CSI) and efforts to clean up the Samish Basin. The meeting will take place at the Allen Fire Hall located at 9061 Avon Allen Road from 5:30 - 7:00 p.m. This date supersedes the previously scheduled meeting dates of February 24 and March 10.

Following a brief update on the progress of the Clean Samish Initiative, the meeting will open up for questions from the community for County staff. Representatives from Skagit County Public Works, Skagit County Public Health, the Samish Nation, and the Skagit Conservation District will be in attendance.

In 2009, Samish Basin fecal coliform pollution issues attracted regional attention and are now the focus of the CSI. The CSI is a multi-agency effort designed to improve water quality in the Samish River Watershed. Fecal coliform bacteria pollution in the Samish River, nearby streams, and the Samish Bay often reach levels too high for safe shellfish harvesting, recreation, and food production. The CSI's aim is to achieve pollution reductions in the Samish Basin and chart a way forward for long-term solutions in the basin.
