Skagit County presents Dollars & Sense of Sustainable Development, April 28, 2011 at the Lincoln Theatre

SKAGIT COUNTY - On Thursday, April 28, 2011, renowned author and authority on sustainable development, Ed McMahon, will present Dollars & Sense of Sustainable Development, a presentation on how residents can identify what they value most about their communities and protect that unique character as a long-term economic asset.

McMahon will identify emerging opportunities to redevelop strip commercial areas into vibrant, mixed-use town centers, while suggesting ways for Skagit Valley to expand sustainable tourism. "Change is inevitable, but the destruction of community character and identity is not," said McMahon. "Progress does not demand degraded surroundings. Communities can grow without destroying the things people love."

McMahon is the Senior Resident Fellow for Sustainable Development and Environmental Policy at the Urban Land Institute in Washington D.C. McMahon's insights have provided encouragement and inspiration to communities across the nation.

The event will take place from 6:30 p.m. - 8:30 p.m. at the Lincoln Theatre located at 712 South First Street, Mount Vernon. The event is free and open to the public. No ticket is required; seating is on a first-come, first-served basis.
