Skagit Council of Governments honors Skagit County with Energy Conservation awards
SKAGIT COUNTY - The Skagit
Council of Government's (SCOG) Resource Conservation Management (RCM) Program
and Puget Sound Energy (PSE) recently awarded Skagit County Special Recognition
Certificates for energy conservation in 2010.
Skagit County received Special Recognition Certificates for the following:
- 2010 Outstanding BTU
Reduction in Energy Usage by a Single Facility: Skagit County Courthouse Complex
- reduction of 1,524 million BTUs in gross energy use
- 2010 Outstanding Reduction
in Energy Usage by Group of Facilities of a Department in One Jurisdiction:
Skagit County Parks and Recreation Department - six facilities with more than
10% reduction in gross energy use (collectively, reduction of 507 million
BTUs)
SCOG issued the awards at
its April 21, 2011, Annual Conservation Awards meeting to recognize energy conservation
efforts and accomplishments in 2010. Eight of the nine local jurisdictions participating
in the program achieved energy reductions in facilities they own and operate,
including Skagit County. Overall, the program had an 8.6% reduction of gross
energy usage in 2010 for daily operations of the 125 facilities in the program.
The SCOG Shared RCM Program was established in July 2008 when SCOG signed a
three-year grant agreement with PSE to reduce electricity usage in facilities
owned and operated by participating jurisdictions. PSE helps fund energy conservation
programs such as this in order to reduce electricity demands on its system and
thereby delay construction of costly, new electricity-generating facilities.
