Washington State Department of Health honors Skagit County resident for keeping drinking water safe
SKAGIT COUNTY - The Washington
State Department of Health issued a press released yesterday, April 26, 2011,
honoring outstanding contributions in keeping drinking water safe. Among the
list of Washington's 2011 honorees was Cas Hancock of Skagit County who won
the "Lifetime Achievement" award.
Kathleen "Cas" Hancock of Concrete is being recognized for her many
contributions to the drinking water industry. Hancock operates a number of water
systems in Skagit and Snohomish counties and is often described as a plain spoken,
big-heartened dynamo with a penchant for bringing people together to solve problems.
"Is there a small system in Skagit County she hasn't helped?" the
colleagues who nominated Hancock quipped. Hancock has served in a number of
leadership capacities, including the state's former Water Supply Advisory Committee.
Keeping drinking water safe is an important and sometimes difficult job. Each
year during National Drinking Water Week, the state Department of Health honors
the professionals and organizations that have made exceptional contributions
to delivering safe, reliable drinking water. Drinking Water Week will be observed
May 1 - 7 this year.
"Each of this year's winners has made a difference for the communities
they serve," said Denise Clifford, Director of the agency's Office of Drinking
Water. "Washington has some of the best drinking water in the nation and
dedicated people like these help keep it that way."
Hancock will receive an award on May 9, 2011 at 1:00 p.m. at the Skagit County
Administrative Building located at 1800 Continental Place, Mount Vernon.
