Bellingham's Stewardship Partners to host free Rain Garden Workshop
SKAGIT COUNTY - On Tuesday,
May 17, 2011, from 6:00 p.m. - 8:00 p.m., Bellingham's Stewardship Partners
will host a free Rain Garden Workshop. Come learn how rain gardens help soak
up water from downspouts, driveways, and sidewalks, while protecting Puget Sound
and local waters.
A rain garden is a shallow
depression in a yard planted with a variety of flowers, shrubs, and grasses
that tolerate wet winters and dry summers. Rain gardens function like native
forests to filter polluted runoff, reduce flooding, and recharge the groundwater.
When planted with the right types of plants, rain gardens also attract birds,
butterflies, and bees.
The workshop will take place
at the Whatcom County Civic Center in the Garden Room, located at 322 N. Commercial
St., Bellingham.
