Filing dates announced for Primary and General elections

SKAGIT COUNTY – Candidates interested in filing for elective offices open for city officials, school districts, fire districts, cemetery districts, park and recreation districts, port districts, water, and sewer districts can file online or in person at the Skagit County Auditor’s office from June 1, 2009 to June 5, 2009 for the primary election scheduled for August 18, 2009 and the General Election, November 3. 2009.

Candidates will appear on the primary ballot only if there are three or more candidates seeking the position. Cemetery districts and parks and recreation districts will only appear on the general election ballot regardless of the number of candidates.

“Skagit County has historically had great community participation in local elections. We encourage all interested citizens to file for elected office,” said Skagit County Auditor Jeanne Youngquist.

Those interested in filing by mail can do so immediately. The form is available at the Auditor’s Office or online. The form must be completed and submitted with the applicable fee.

Filing fees are generally one percent of the annual salary of the position.
