Envision Skagit 2060 Citizen
Committee hosts Open House June 16, 2011
SKAGIT COUNTY - The Envision
Skagit Citizen Committee will host a public open house this Thursday, June 16,
2011, from 4:00 p.m. - 8:00 p.m. to share its draft recommendations with the
public, answer questions, and receive feedback.
Citizen Committee members will make a presentation summarizing their recommendations
at 4:30, 5:30, and 7:00 p.m. Open house attendees will have the opportunity
to ask questions, talk with Citizen Committee members directly, share their
thoughts on the recommendations, and submit written comments. The Citizen Committee
will consider public comments as it works to finalize its recommendations by
the end of June 2011.
The meeting will be held
at the NW WA Pipe Trades Apprenticeship Building located at 780 Chrysler Drive,
Burlington.
Since September 2010, the Citizen Committee has worked to learn about important
issues facing Skagit County over the next 50 years and make recommendations
to guide future growth and land conservation.
A key part of the Citizen
Committee's process for developing its recommendations were 10 public visioning
meetings held in various communities throughout the county between January and
April 2011, attended by 300 county residents. The committee also considered
written comments submitted by county residents at those meetings and through
the project website.
The committee released its draft recommendations late last week. The recommendations are available on the Envision Skagit website at www.skagitcounty.net/envisionskagit.
The recommendations address
the following issues:
- Regional coordination,
collaboration, and cooperation
- Natural resource lands
and industries
- Environmental resources
and values
- Compact communities and
conservation development
- Sustainable transportation
system
- Housing variety and affordability
- Economic vitality
- Climate change
