Trustees Association honors Commissioner Dahlstedt with leadership award
SKAGIT COUNTY - The Trustees
Association of Community and Technical Colleges (TACTC) recently recognized
Skagit County Commissioner Ken Dahlstedt for his outstanding service in furthering
the mission of technical and community colleges in Washington State.
Skagit Valley College (SVC) nominated Commissioner Dahlstedt for the 2012 TACTC
Award for Leadership for his contributions that improved facilities at the Mount
Vernon SVC campus and the quality of life in Skagit County.
Dahlstedt led projects that built McIntyre Hall, a 700-seat regional performing
arts and conference center, and improved campus tennis courts and recreation
facilities for the community to enjoy. Dahlstedt was instrumental in acquiring
and maximizing funds to construct a new restroom facility, concession stand,
jogging trail, and world-class baseball and soccer fields for college and community
use. Dahlstedt also supports SVC through partnerships with the Northwest Washington
Workforce Development Council; Skagit Transit; and Leadership Skagit, a partnership
between Skagit Valley College, Washington State University, and the Economic
Development Association of Skagit County.
Dahlstedt is an alumnus of Skagit Valley College. He and his father were both
honored in 2010 as inductees to Skagit Valley College's Hall of Fame, which
exists to honor students, faculty, staff and community members who have contributed
in an outstanding and positive way to Skagit Valley College.
TACTC's vision is to ensure
quality, affordable and lifelong education opportunities for all people in Washington
State by educating and uniting community and technical college trustees to help
them fulfill their responsibilities.
The TACTC Awards recognize individuals who have demonstrated exceptional leadership
in furthering the mission of community and technical colleges. Eligibility was
open to all employees of the community and technical college system, elected
officials/legislators, State Board members, and individual supporters of community
and technical colleges. College trustees submitted nominations that were judged
for contributions to an individual college, the state system or two-year colleges
at the national level; impact in advancing community, district, state or national
issues; their role in building public support for community and technical colleges
in the state; and leadership in furthering innovative practices in the two-year
college system.
Awards were presented at the TACTC Spring Convention at Big Bend Community College
in Moses Lake, Wash. on June 25.
