Skagit County's Tim DeVries named WABO Building Official of the Year
SKAGIT COUNTY - The Washington Association of Building Officials (WABO)
named Skagit County building official Tim DeVries Building Official of the Year
at its annual business meeting this June.
WABO is an association of hundreds of building officials from each city and
county around Washington State, as well as those representing construction companies
and state agencies. Members nominate and vote for a Building Official of the
Year and Associate Building Official of the Year annually.
"It's based on a lifetime involvement in the field for betterment of the
profession and the community," DeVries said.
DeVries said he was unaware of his nomination and surprised to win this prestigious
award. DeVries has held multiple leadership positions in his 7 years as a member
of WABO, serving on various committees, as Second Vice President, as Education
Committee Chairman, and most recently as First Vice President, a position from
which he just resigned in lieu of his upcoming retirement.
DeVries has also served as past president and vice president of the local chapter
of the International Code Council. DeVries worked as a commercial building inspector
for Island County before coming to Skagit County in 1997. At Skagit, he examined
residential and then commercial plans before being promoted to building official
in 2005. DeVries now handles hiring and training, code enforcement, floodplain
management, development reviews, and public information for Skagit County's
Planning Department.
