9th ANNUAL SAMISH BAY BIVALVE BASH AND LOW TIDE MUD RUN SCHEDULED FOR SATURDAY JULY 16th. PROCEEDS SUPPORT COMMUNITY CLEAN WATER AWARENESS PROGRAMS
IT'S TIME FOR SOME FUN IN THE SUN!
Taylor Shellfish Farms and
the Skagit Conservation Education Alliance (SCEA) are pleased to announce the
9th Annual Samish Bay Bivalve Bash and Low Tide Mud Run will be held 10am to
5pm, Saturday, July 16 at the Taylor Shellfish Farms' Samish Bay beautiful shore
side location in Bow, Washington. Proceeds from the homegrown, homespun day
of games, contests, food, beverage, entertainment and family activities support
the community clean water awareness programs of SCEA. The public is cordially
invited to join the fun. Bivalve Bash entry is $5 with kids six and under and
Mud Runners admitted free.
The Samish Bay Bivalve Bash celebrates the cultural, biological and economic
importance of shellfish grown in Samish Bay. "The idea is to have some
summer fun on the beach while raising awareness of water quality issues,"
says Taylor Shellfish Farms President Bill Taylor.
The popular 250-yard Low Tide Mud Run begins at low tide (-1.5), 12:07PM. Some
say that yard for yard this uniquely strenuous run is the Northwest's toughest
foot race. Limited to the first 200 entrants this race requires peak fitness.
On the race course shoes are required and Super Jock 'N Jill will be on hand
to duck tape them onto hardy runners' feet. Clean up hoses are provided. A change
of clothes is recommended. Mud Run Divisions include boys and girls, ages 8-12
and men and women, ages 13 and up. The 100-yard Kid's Mud Run will start at
11:47AM. Medals and prizes will be awarded in each division. Runners stuck in
the mud will be rescued before the incoming tide! For information and entry

Bivalve Bash activities kick off at 10AM with Mud Run registration, The World's
Only Oyster Shell Sculpture Contest and the SCEA Silent Auction. Sign up at
the Bivalve Bandstand for one of the three amateur oyster shucking competitions.
The Kid's Beach and Mr. Krabby's Kid Pond will be open through the day. Try
your hand at Oyster Beanbag Toss and the "Crabtucky Derby"!
Shellacious Bivalve Bash fare begins at 11AM and includes oysters on the half shell by Taylor Shellfish, steamed clams by the Rhododendron Café, curried mussels by Xinh's Clam and Oyster House in Shelton, steamed Mediterranean mussels by Il Granaio, BBQ'd Oysters by the Chuckanut Manor, BBQ'd salmon dinner by the Samish Nation, hot dogs and corn-on-the-cob by the Mt Vernon Cheerleaders and Skagit Raspberry Shortcake by Anthony's HomePort and Mike and Jean's Berries. The Beer Garden features local brews by La Conner Brewing Company and an Oyster Award winning wine. Non-alcoholic beverages can be purchased from the Skagit Fisheries Enhancement Group.
Get down and boogie to live
music will be provided by Bivalve Bash favorite's The Atlantics 1:00PM-4:45PM
from Bellingham.From the Kid's Beach, crab races, hula-hoops, oyster beanbag
toss, shell craft, SCEA's silent action, shucking contest, bivalve face painting
and more, the Bivalve Bash has activities for ALL ages all at one of Puget Sound's
most beautiful and scenic locations.

Daytime bicycle parking only at the Taylor Shellfish Farm festival site. For
free daytime festival car parking, follow the signs going north and south on
Chuckanut Drive. Shuttle buses, will leave every 15-20 minutes; one with handicapped
accessibility. Sorry, no pets and no coolers at the festival site.
