Washington State's Municipal
Stormwater Capacity Grant Program offers Skagit County $203,000
SKAGIT COUNTY - On June
17, the Washington State Department of Ecology's Municipal Stormwater Capacity
Grant Program offered Skagit County $203,000. This grant funding is part of
Ecology's $50 million grant program that allows local governments to invest
in local programs and manage pollution problems associated with stormwater.
The offered funding will provide great assistance in reducing stormwater pollution
in Skagit County, which is a major threat to Puget Sound and the state's urban
waters. "This grant funding will be essential in building Skagit County's
Stormwater Management Program, improving local stormwater quality, and meeting
the responsibilities of our National Pollutant Discharge Elimination System
(NPDES) Phase II Municipal Stormwater Permit issued by Washington Department
of Ecology," said Mike See, Skagit County Stormwater Coordinator.
The $50 million financial assistance program is divided into two parts: the
Municipal Stormwater Capacity Grant Program and the Fiscal Year 2011 Stormwater
Retrofit and Low Impact Development (LID) Competitive Grant Program. Skagit
County will apply for the second grant program to fund an LID demonstration
project in the parking lot of the County Commissioners Administration Building.
