Skagit County offers residential energy efficiency program
SKAGIT COUNTY -Skagit County's Sustainability Office is looking for additional
participants to join the Skagit County Community Energy Challenge ("SCEC"),
a pilot program to help residents improve the energy efficiency of their homes.
Skagit County's program, modeled on the successful Whatcom Community Energy
Challenge, begins with a 4-5 hour comprehensive home energy assessment. Each
homeowner receives a 16-page report to help address efficiency and comfort issues
and reveal opportunities to lower home energy bills through insulation, air
sealing, upgraded appliances, and other measures.
The SCEC also provides information and support to make the recommended improvements,
including rebate and incentive programs, and helps homeowners take the next
steps to make their home more energy efficient and sustainable.
These assessments, normally valued at $500-600, only cost homeowners $95, and
this is the only cost for the program. To be eligible, participants must own
a single-family home in Skagit County. Nearly 70 homeowners have participated
so far.
The pilot program is grant-funded and will only be offered for a limited time,
so sign up while spaces remain.
Interested residents can email SkagitCEC@co.skagit.wa.us
or call (360) 419-7607. More information is available at www.skagitcounty.net/SCEC.
