Skagit County honors memory of employee Tim DeVries
SKAGIT COUNTY - It is with great sorrow that we must report that long-time Skagit County employee Tim DeVries
(Building Official and Floodplain Manager) passed away on Tuesday morning, August 7, 2012, while at home, with his wife
Barbra near their bedside, after a courageous battle with cancer. Tim worked for Skagit County Planning and Development
Services for 16 years.
"Tim was a long-time, dedicated public employee who tried to add common sense to a difficult process," said Skagit County
Commissioner Ken Dahlstedt. "Our thoughts and prayers go out to his family, friends, and coworkers."
The department office was Tim's home away from home where his coworkers were like family. Tim lived life as he wanted.
He was in love with his wife Barbra, committed to his job and profession, and loved the freedom of riding his Harley
Davidson motor bike.
"Tim will be greatly missed. He was one of those can-do people, always taking on projects willingly. We have truly lost a
one-of-a-kind person," said Skagit County Commissioner Sharon Dillon.
Recently, Tim was honored by the Washington Association of Building Officials (WABO) as the 2012 Building Official of the
Year at its annual business meeting. Tim was a member of the Northwest Chapter of ICC (International Code Counsel) and a
member of WABO. He was certified as a floodplain manager, accredited code official, building official, plans examiner, and
building inspector.
"Tim had a common sense approach when dealing with issues in Skagit County. His work on the FEMA flood issues will be
missed," said Skagit County Commissioner Ron Wesen.
The public is welcome to attend Tim's celebration of life at 1:00 p.m. on Friday, August 17 at His Place Church.
