Skagit County seeks
applicants for lodging tax money
SKAGIT COUNTY -Skagit County
is now accepting applications to fund primarily advertising, marketing, and
promotion of projects and events that help promote tourism.
Organizations seeking funding for projects and events that bring tourists to
Skagit County are eligible to apply. Awards last year ranged from $500 to $30,000,
and helped about 25 different organizations promote art exhibits, community
celebrations, a county farm map, music and theater events, sporting events,
and a Kneading Conference.
Each application should outline a project that increases tourist activity in
Skagit County throughout the year and economically benefits the county. Applicants
should state how much money they need to fully fund their projects, and should
define alternate funding sources along with the minimum acceptable amount of
funding requested from the county. Project funding is provided by revenue from
special excise taxes. The Lodging Tax Advisory Committee (LTAC) makes recommendations
to the Skagit County Commissioners on which projects to fund, based on the effectiveness
and need of the proposal.
Applications for calendar year 2013 are due to Skagit County by September 14,
2012. The LTAC will review these applications in October. Applications are available
online at www.skagitcounty.net/budgetfinance
at the top of the page in both .doc and .pdf format.
