October 8 through October 24, 2012
SKAGIT COUNTY - The 2012 Guemes Island Ferry haul-out will take place from October
8 through October 24. The M/V Guemes will depart Anacortes for Foss Shipyard
in Seattle, WA on Sunday October 7, 2012, at approximately 6:30 p.m. The car
ferry's last run will occur Sunday, October 7, at 5:45 p.m.; that evening, passenger-only
service will be provided on the last three runs of the night at 7:00 p.m., 7:30
p.m. and 8:00 p.m. The vessel is scheduled to return to service Thursday, October
25, at 6:00 am.
To improve reliability, lower costs, and protect capital improvement, Skagit County adopted a maintenance program that includes an annual dry-docking of the Guemes Island Ferry as necessary. During the haul-out, Skagit County will remove and replace one outdrive, remove and replace two propellers, paint portions of the superstructure, deck, and void spaces, strip and clean the fuel tanks, replace the generator keel cooler, perform other small maintenance items and complete the US Coast Guard dry-dock credit.
Arrow Launch will provide a passenger-only service beginning October 7, 2012, at 7:00 p.m. that will operate according to the regular non-peak sailing schedule. The non-peak sailing schedule and passenger fares can be found at www.skagitcounty.net/ferry. The passenger-only vessel accommodates 49 passengers and carries both bicycles and small motorbikes. Skagit Transit will provide a bus on Guemes Island to provide transportation to and from the ferry dock.
