Skagit County Invites Participation in Bayview Ridge Concepts Survey
SKAGIT COUNTY-The Skagit
County Planning & Development Services Department released a community survey
earlier this month to assist the department in developing a Planned Unit Development
(PUD) ordinance for the Bayview Ridge subarea. Skagit County residents are invited
to participate in the survey, available
here, before it closes at the end of the day on Friday, August 20.
County planners constructed the survey based on feedback received at the April
community workshop at Bay View School. Workshop participants received briefings
on the Port of Skagit County's operations at Bayview Ridge and commented on
examples of PUDs and Low-Impact Development (LID) techniques from around the
country. Highly-rated PUD and LID examples form the basis for the new survey,
and the results of the survey will assist in the creation of a PUD ordinance.
Skagit County and international consulting firm HDR continue to work on a PUD
ordinance to guide development at Bayview Ridge. A PUD ordinance allows planned
developments in a specific location. The general purpose of a PUD is to allow
flexibility in design and creative site planning to produce a more cohesive
development than that which would be created through traditional lot-by-lot
design. The PUD process may also provide for mixed uses.
As HDR continues to work on the ordinance, staff from the departments of Public
Works, Planning, and Parks are working on mitigating drainage concerns, working
with Burlington-Edison School District on school siting, and planning for recreational
opportunities.
