appointed to the University Center of North Puget Sound Coordinating and Planning
Council
SKAGIT COUNTY - Skagit County
Commissioner Ken Dahlstedt was appointed to serve as a member of the University
Center of North Puget Sound Coordinating and Planning Council. The Coordinating
and Planning Council (CPC) will play a key role in furthering higher education
in Everett, Snohomish County, the North Puget Sound region, and the state of
Washington.
"I'm honored and privileged to serve on the CPC and represent our county,"
said Commissioner Dahlstedt. "Ensuring and pursuing higher education is
of great importance and I am committed to enhancing the opportunities available
for higher education in the North Puget Sound region."
On May 12, 2011, Gov. Gregoire signed Second Substitute Senate Bill 5636 (SSSB
5636) into law, designating Washington State University as the institution to
lead the University Center of North Puget Sound. Under the provisions of SSSB
3536, the new CPC will be responsible for long-range and strategic planning,
collaboration between institutions and with the communities served, as well
as dispute resolution for the University Center. Members of the CPC will play
a key role in leading the expansion, development, and direction of the University
Center of North Puget Sound.
"The legislation was successfully passed because leaders like you have
made a commitment to higher education in the North Puget Sound region,"
said Washington State University President Edison S. Floyd. "Our vision
today will pay great dividends for future generations. I am a firm believer
that the best way for our country to endure these tough economic times is to
invest in higher education - it represents our best hope for the future."
