Skagit County Farmland
Legacy Program accepting applications: due October 31, 2011
SKAGIT COUNTY - After undergoing
a strategic planning process in spring 2011, the Farmland Legacy Program's new
Strategic Plan recommended receiving and reviewing Farmland Legacy applications
twice a year. Applications will now be reviewed in October and April of each
year. The Conservation Futures Advisory Committee will then rank the proposals
shortly after the closing date.
Applications are due October 31 and April 30; however, applications will be
accepted throughout the year. Properties will be ranked on the number of points
received by the specific proposal. Offers to purchase the development rights
will be awarded based on available funding. If proposals are not funded in the
submitted round, they will be moved to the next round and will be re-ranked.
Both the application and the ranking selection points are online at www.skagitcounty.net/farmland.
The protection of farmland offers long-term certainty for farmers, environmental
attributes, and economic stimulus.
For more information or to receive an application, please contact Kendra Smith,
Farmland Legacy Program Executive Director, at (360) 419-3303.
