Skagit
County maintains Community Rating System Class 4 rating, saving rural residents
over $800,000 in flood insurance premiums.
SKAGIT COUNTY -Skagit County residents are enjoying reduced National Flood Insurance
premiums thanks to maintaining a Class 4 rating by the National Flood Insurance
Rating System. Skagit County's Class 4 rating qualifies ratepayers for a 30%
discount on flood insurance premiums and a savings of over $800,000 annually.
The Community Rating System awards communities that voluntarily take steps beyond
the minimum requirements of the National Flood Insurance Program to reduce flood
risks and increase the effectiveness of flood insurance protection.
Skagit County's volunteer actions include flood preparedness, flood damage reduction,
mapping and regulations, and public awareness efforts.
As of August 31, 2012, there are 3,030 flood insurance policies in unincorporated
Skagit County with total insurance in force of $604,420,600. The Class 4 rating
saves the average policy holder around $300 annually.
