The Cascadia Corridor: How regional growth will shape Skagit County and Northern Puget Sound
SKAGIT COUNTY - On Wednesday, October 27, 2010, nationally recognized speaker
and author Dr. Robert Lang will provide a presentation on the Cascadia Corridor, discussing how regional growth will influence the
future of Skagit County and other northern Puget Sound communities.
Lang, director of Brookings Mountain West at the University of Nevada, Las Vegas, sees the Cascadia corridor, from Eugene,
OR, to Vancouver, B.C., becoming one of the major US "megapolitan regions." Lang asserts that these regions, comprised of
large cities, linked together by efficient high-speed rail, and projected to reach populations of 10 million or more by
2040, will become the country's core economic centers.
In his presentation, Lang will address how regional growth may affect efforts in Skagit County and other northern Puget
Sound communities to build strong economies while protecting the environment and sustaining their high quality of life.
Dr. Lang has been featured in USA Today, the New York Times, Washington Post, Wall Street Journal, US News and World Report,
and has also been reported on by NPR, CNN, MSNBC, Fox News, and ABC World News Tonight.
Prior to Lang's presentation, Skagit County will also host an open house from 6:30-7:00pm to provide information on the
Envision Skagit 2060 project to interested members of the public.
The presentation is free, with seating provided on a first-come, first-seated basis. For more information on the event,
