SKAGIT COUNTY - Thanks to
the financial support of Puget Sound Energy, the General Mills Foundation, Cascadian
Farms, Skagit County, and Columbia Bank, the Skagit River Bald Eagle Interpretive
Center (SRBEIC) will again be open this upcoming Eagle Viewing season.
The SRBEIC at the Howard Miller Steelhead Park in Rockport will open December
2, 2011 through January 29, 2012 from 10:00 a.m. - 4:00 p.m. on Friday, Saturday,
and Sunday. On Fridays, it will host public and private school educational programs,
and on Saturdays and Sundays, it will host speakers, provide Eagle information,
and guided walks along the Skagit River through the Howard Miller Steelhead
Park.
Skagit County Parks and Recreation sponsors the SRBEIC with the building, providing
both a warm place to watch Bald Eagles and to take in informational programs.
The Skagit River Interpretive Center has been an important citizen-driven accomplishment
of Eastern Skagit County, and has provided community and natural history education
for 6,000 - 10,000 visitors per year for 14 years.
