SHERIFF'S OFFICE REPORTS 43 PERCENT DECREASE IN BURGLARIES

SKAGIT COUNTY – For the second quarter in a row, the Skagit County Sheriff’s office has reported a significant decrease in property crimes. For the third quarter of 2006, burglaries dropped by 42.8 percent, following a second quarter drop of 56 percent. “This quarter, even vehicle prowls have dropped back from previous record highs,” said Will Reichardt, Chief Criminal Deputy.

“This is six months of falling numbers,” said Reichardt. “I believe part of this is due to some key arrests of some very prolific thieves.”

“We have also had Deputy Rhonda Lasley assigned to a “pro-active” position with patrol and she has done an absolutely outstanding job,” said Reichardt.

In other statistics 911 hang-ups dropped by 25.8 percent. Civil problems, sex offense/rape, and assault showed small declines. Calls for vehicle accidents, animal problems, and alarms were up slightly.
