HEALTH DEPARTMENT ISSUES REPORT ON COMMUNICABLE DISEASES IN SKAGIT COUNTY

SKAGIT COUNTY – The Skagit County Public Health Department has released a special report on Communicable Disease Prevention in Skagit County. The report was written by Communicable Disease Nursing Supervisor Sandi Paciotti, RN, BSN, and Population and Health Information Manager Alex von Cube, MPH, Ph.D.

The report examines the demographics of communicable diseases in Skagit County with additional information on preventing disease, reportable diseases, Tuberculosis in Washington State and Skagit County, sexually transmitted diseases, HIV/AIDS, and new and emerging infectious diseases.

“Public Health’s role in communicable disease is to trace the source and extent of a disease, to conduct investigations and prevent the further spread of the disease,” said von Cube. “The steady, quiet daily prevention activities of immunizations and education assure that disease does not spread out of control.”

The report was funded by Island Hospital, Skagit County Public Health Department, Skagit-Island Counties Medical Society, Skagit Valley Hospital and United General Hospital. “We routinely publish community reports on health issues, and appreciate the support of our health care partners,” said Skagit County Public Health Director Peter Browning.
