WSU LIVESTOCK ADVISORS PRESENT: FARMING FOR PRODUCTION, PROFIT AND PLEASURE

Joel Salatin, a pioneer in the production and marketing of grass-based livestock products, will share his family’s model for making a comfortable, sustainable living on their Virginia farm.  Salatin’s books, Pastured Poultry$: Net $25,000 in 6 Months on 20 Acres, helped launch the current revolution in pastured poultry.  He has also written Salad Bar Beef, You Can Farm: The Entrepreneur’s Guide to Start and Succeed in an Enterprise, and  his newest release, Holy Cows and Hog Heaven: The Food Buyers Guide to Farm Friendly Food.  Salatin humorously weaves his organic farming message into an agricultural paradigm that sees plants and animals filling their natural niches on the farm. The one day conference will be held March 5, 2005 at Skagit Valley College in Mount Vernon beginning at 8:00 am.  Pre-registration is $70 ($125 Couple) if paid before Feb 10, 2005 and includes a gourmet lunch of locally produced food products. Call WSU Skagit County Extension to register 360-428-4270, or download a registration form at http://skagit.wsu.edu/.
