Skagit County residents advised to take preliminary precautions against flooding
In response to the Flood Watch issued by the National Weather service, the Skagit County Department of Emergency Management issued the recommendation that homeowners in the floodplains of the Skagit River take preliminary precautions against flooding. A Flood Watch means there is a potential for flooding based on current forecasts. You should monitor later forecasts and be alert for possible flood warnings. Those living in areas prone to flooding should be prepared to take action should flooding develop.
Due to recent rainfall, the Skagit River is expected to exceed the Minor Flood Level late this Wednesday and early Thursday morning. Current forecasts show the Skagit River in Concrete reaching 28.8’ around 4:00 pm on January 13th and 28.34’ in Mount Vernon around 4:00 am on January 14th. Flood stage at both Mount Vernon and Concrete is 28’.
The public throughout Skagit County should expect to see standing water, including some water on roadways over the next few days.
