Skagit County to Perform Survey Work Around Big Lake
Skagit County Public Works staff will be conducting survey work around Big Lake starting January 27th and continuing throughout 2025.
The purpose of the survey work is to identify and inventory stormwater outfalls (pipe outlets) around Big Lake. Similar survey work has been done throughout the County as part of the County’s stormwater permit.
Mapping the exact location and size of outfalls into Big Lake will help Skagit County better manage stormwater entering the lake and improve the health of the lake and surrounding community.
Out of the 80 outfalls on Big Lake, 25 are located on private property. Public Works staff will need one-time access to some shoreline properties to complete this work. Property visits are non-invasive and may be as short as 20 minutes.
The County will send two letters to property owners whose shorelines they need to access. The first letter will notify property owners that their property may have an outfall on it and Public Works staff will need to access their shoreline. The second letter will let property owners know Public Works staff will be visiting their property at some point in the following two weeks. Staff will knock on the door before each visit. Residents do not need to be home during visits.
