SKAGIT RIVER INFORMATION
The Skagit River is continuing to rise in Skagit County. At 5:45 p.m., the gauge reading at Concrete was 26.60 feet and 24.58 in Mount Vernon.
Current predictions call for the river to crest at Concrete at 36.7 feet at 4:00 p.m. Wednesday afternoon. The crest prediction for Mount Vernon is 34.2 feet at 4:00 a.m. Thursday morning.
Officials will be meeting in Mount Vernon tomorrow morning to determine whether or not, based on predictions, sandbagging the revetment in the downtown area will be required. No sandbagging activity will be taking place tonight.
The following roads are currently closed because of water over the roadway: Sam Bell Road from Pulver Road to Chuckanut Drive and Martin Road from Highway 530 to the fishing access at milepost .440.
Residents living along flood
prone rivers and tributaries should be ready to act quickly when the National
Weather Service issues a flood warning. Driving through flooded areas is the
cause of most flood-related deaths in Washington. Planning ahead to protect
animals and livestock is also advised.
