Skagit County to Launch New Public Disclosure Request Software

Skagit County is in the process of transitioning to a new public records request management software, NextRequest by CivicPlus, designed to help government agencies more efficiently handle Freedom of Information Act (FOIA) requests and other public records requests. The new online portal will simplify and streamline the process of receiving, processing, and fulfilling public records requests from start to finish, and will be available for use starting in early February 2025.

The public will be able to submit and track requests for public records and documents through an online portal. The new software will be more transparent for the public by allowing requesters to see the status of their submittals in real-time. If users have questions or concerns with submittals, the software is equipped with built-in communication tools to connect users with the appropriate staff. The new software will additionally create a more efficient system to process requests by automating the routing of requests to the appropriate departments, streamlining document management for County staff, and providing comprehensive reports for audit trails and compliance verification.

The Skagit Board of County Commissioners is excited to utilize this service to provide improved customer experience for our community when submitting requests for public documents. If you are interested in learning more about NextRequest, the County Commissioners will host a work session on the new software on Monday, January 27th, at 12:45pm in the Commissioner’s Hearing Room at 1800 Continental Place, Mount Vernon. The work session will include a demonstration by staff on the new software and instructions for how to submit new public records requests. The community can join the work session in-person or online by watching TV21 or joining via Zoom at the link on the Commissioner’s website.

If you have any questions regarding the new public records request software, please reach out to the Skagit County Commissioners office at (360) 416-1300 or commissioners@co.skagit.wa.us
