SKAGIT COUNTY Slated as the premier educational event for progressive beef producers in Western Washington, the Tri-County Cattlemens Winter School and Trade Show will be held Saturday, February 8, 2003 at Skagit Valley College from 8 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. Sponsors include the Cattlemens Association, Washington State University Cooperative Extension, WSU Learning Center for Skagit, Island and San Juan Counties, and Skagit Valley College. A full-course beef buffet will be served along with all-day refreshments. This unique educational and social event for families who raise cattle is geared for the practical, hands-on skills and techniques for success in this business, said Mike Hackett, WSU NW area Extension Livestock agent. Topics will include veterinary care, pasture and fencing management, raising grass-fed tasty beef, proper and safe cattle handling, calving basics, living with salmon issues and much more. This is the only regional educational forum designed just for cattle producers. This has been happening for 27 years, said Hackett. Commercial exhibitors, agencies and breed organizations will also be on hand all day to answer questions. Pre-registration (by February 8, 2003) is $25 per person, $15 for students and 4-H/FFA members and $5 per couple. Registration at the door is $30 per person, if space is available.
