TWO MEETINGS SCHEDULED TO DISCUSS POSSIBLE BUYOUTS FOR HOMES IN THE FLOODPLAIN
SKAGIT COUNTY Two public meetings are scheduled to discuss possible buyouts for homes in the floodplain. Skagit County and Dike District 12 intend to apply for Federal and State funds through the Federal Emergency Management Agency (FEMA) Hazard Mitigation Grant Program administered by Washington State Emergency Management Division (EMD). Local funds will be used as a match if the projects are approved. The meetings are scheduled for:
Tuesday, March 2, 2004
6:00 p.m. 8:00 p.m.
Sedro Woolley Senior Center
715 Pacific St., Sedro WoolleyTuesday, March 9, 2004
6:00 p.m. 8 p.m.
Burlington City Hall Council Room

These meetings are a time for the public to share ideas and comments regarding potential projects and alternatives to address our flood hazard. We are proposing programs to buy or move homes that have a history of flooding or threat due to erosion, said Ann Marie Gutwein, Skagit County Public Works.
FEMA/EMD priorities are
for owner occupied homes that have repetitive loss from flooding or erosion
and have flood insurance. Comments will be taken at the meetings. If you cannot
attend one of the meetings, send your comments by March 12, 2004 to Gutwein.
