COMMISSIONERS VOTE TO PLACE RURAL PARTIAL-COUNTY LIBRARY PROPOSITION ON BALLOT, APRIL 26, 2005
SKAGIT COUNTY The Skagit County Board of Commissioners passed a resolution, Monday, February 28, 2005 to place a proposition on the ballot for April 26, 2005 for establishing a Rural Partial-County Library District.
On November 12, 2004, the Skagit Auditor received a petition from residents within the unincorporated areas of Anacortes, Burlington-Edison, Conway, Mount Vernon, and Sedro-Woolley school districts, requesting that a proposition be placed on the ballot for the formation of a rural partial-county library district.
An Affidavit of Sufficiency
from the Auditors offices dated January 4, 2005, verified that the petition
contained the signatures of more than 10 percent of the registered voters within
the area proposed to include in the rural partial-county library district.
If a majority of those voting on the proposition vote in favor of establishment
of the rural county library district, the Skagit County Commissioners will declare
it established and will appoint a board of library trustees and provide funds
for the establishment and maintenance of library service for the district by
making a tax levy on the property in the district of not more than fifty cents
per thousand dollars of assessed value per year. This levy will be part of the
general tax roll.
