Guemes Island Ferry Haul-Out to Begin Tomorrow

The Guemes Island ferry haul-out, and passenger-only service, will begin tomorrow, March 15th, through Tuesday, April 29th. The final car ferry sailing to Guemes Island will depart Anacortes at 8:30 p.m. tonight with return service to Anacortes approximately eight minutes later. There will be no late ferry service after 8:30 p.m. to allow for time to transition to passenger-only service and load supplies to ready the vessel to head to drydock at Nichols Brothers in Freeland, WA. Passenger-only service will begin at 6:30 a.m. on Saturday, March 15th.

The following information regarding the haul-out is available on the Guemes Island ferry website

Two new FAQs have been added regarding golf cart service and HAZMAT runs on the passenger ferry.

Will there be a shuttle service in Anacortes?

Due to safety concerns, we have decided to discontinue the golf cart service offered during previous drydock periods. We understand this service has been appreciated by many of you in the past, but we believe this change is in the best interest of both our passengers and crew. To help our passengers with mobility concerns, we have added new handicap parking spots near the ferry terminal building and along the fence bordering the marina on the east side of the terminal.

There is a Skagit Transit bus route #409 that stops at the ferry landing every 30-40 minutes. Please visit General Route Information | Skagit Transit for more information about bus routes and schedule.

Can the passenger ferry carry portable containers of hazardous materials (HAZMAT)?

For the safety of everyone onboard, Strait Arrow is not permitted to transport hazardous materials (HAZMAT) when carrying passengers. While our car ferry is allowed to carry HAZMAT under a special permit, this permit does not apply to our chartered services.

As per 49 CFR 176.76, portable containers of HAZMAT, including gasoline and propane, are not allowed on the passenger-only vessel. This regulation helps ensure the safety and well-being of all passengers and crew.

We understand that this may be an inconvenience, but your safety is our top priority. Thank you for your cooperation and understanding.

If you have any additional questions regarding the haul-out, please reach out to the ferry office at 360-293-6433 or pw@co.skagit.wa.us
