First COVID-19 Death of Skagit County Resident

Today, Skagit County Public Health was notified that a resident who previously tested positive for COVID-19 has passed away. The individual was a female in her 80s. This is the first COVID-19 death of a Skagit County resident and is related to the cluster of cases reported on March 21st.

“We are very sad to have to report this first death,” said Skagit County Health Officer Dr. Howard Leibrand. “My thoughts are with her family and friends as they grieve this loss.”

The individual was a patient at Skagit Valley Hospital.

Public Health identifies and notifies all close contacts of COVID-19 cases. All close contacts are given instructions for taking quarantine precautions. Close contacts may include family members, friends, co-workers, emergency responders and others. These people will be closely monitored for symptoms to avoid further spread of this virus.
It is everyone's responsibility to help prevent the spread of COVID-19. Everyone should follow Health Officer guidance to stay home except for essential trips, and postpone or cancel all non-household gatherings.
