SKAGIT COUNTY – A series of presentations focusing on transitioning children with developmental disabilities as happy, working adults in our community is being offered by Skagit County Human Services. The program, entitled “SCHOOL TRANSITION: What Is It and How to Develop Effective Partnerships with Parents, Schools, and the DD Community” is offered by Cinda Johnson, with the Center for Change in Transition Services at the University of Washington.

“Transition” is the pre-vocational and vocational training that local school districts provide for children from the age of 14.

The presentation is scheduled for Wednesday, April 7, 2004 from 7:00 to 8:30 a.m. at the Burlington Community Center at 1011 East Greenleaf, Burlington. Child care is available and a lasagna and salad dinner will be provided.

On April 14, 2004, there will be second presentation featuring a panel discussion form the Adult Service Providers in Skagit County discussing the types of vocational and community access services that provided for adults with developmental disabilities. Organizations represented include Chinook Enterprises, Rehabco, and Washington Vocational Services.
