I-5, 2ND STREET BRIDGE REPLACEMENT MEETING MEETING FOR LOCAL BUSINESSES AND AGENCIES MARCH 31, 2004
LOWEST CLEARANCE ON 1-5
The existing bridge has the lowest clearance over Interstate 5 between Canada
and Mexico, forcing taller trucks to detouraround the bridge, slowing freight
mobility and congesting city streets.
MEETING:
The Washington State Department of Transportation is hosting a meeting for local
downtown Mount Vernon businesses and agencies impacted by the 2nd Street Bridge
Replacement project. Wednesday March 31, 2004 1805 Continental, Mt. Vernon Police
Department 3:00 p.m. to 4:30 p.m.
NEW BRIDGE:
The new 2nd Street Bridge will be wider and taller and will increase safety
and reduce congestion for motorists. It will also have three lanes, sidewalks,
bicycle lanes and a height clearance over 1-5 of 18'7". Come and learn
more about the project's construction schedule, lane closures, detour routes,
parking impacts and more.
BRIDGE CLOSED FOR A YEAR:
We will completely remove the existing 2nd Street Bridge fIrSt, and then build
the new bridge in its place. This will save both time and money and reduce impacts
to the surrounding community. The new bridge will take roughly 11-15 months
to complete.

Weare doing everything we can to maintain access to down town Mount Vernon while
the 2nd Street Bridge is closed. Detour and alternate routes will be clearly
marked to help drivers avoid construction and easily navigate to downtown Mount
