Skagit County seeking feedback on draft Stormwater Management Program Plan

Today, Skagit County opened public comment on the 2021 Stormwater Management Program Plan. You can find the draft plan in full here. Comments are accepted via email to jasonq@co.skagit.wa.us or by mail to 1800 Continental Place, Mount Vernon, WA 98273.

Skagit County is allowed to discharge stormwater runoff (like rain running off our roads) into the State’s water bodies (like streams, rivers, lakes, etc.) under the Western Washington Phase II Municipal Stormwater Permit. One of the annual requirements of that permit is to create, and make available to the public the SWMP, to let the public know what stormwater-related actions and outreach events Skagit County plans in the coming year.

“The event everyone is probably most familiar with is Salmon Fest, but we actually provide a wide range of stormwater programing,” said Jason Quigley, Stromwater Permit Program Coordinator. “Some other examples are participate in the Mount Vernon High School science night, conduct workshops for contractors and the public on a variety of stormwater-related topics, and support programs designed to reduce runoff pollution. All of this is done to help reduce stormwater pollution in Skagit.”

The draft plan can be found online at here.

The comment period closes May 31, 2021. The final plan will be posted by May 31, 2019. For questions or more details, please contact Jason Quigley at jasonq@co.skagit.wa.us or 360-416-1463.
