IT’S TIME TO PAY FIRST HALF PROPERTY TAXES

SKAGIT COUNTY – The due date for first half property taxes is April 30, 2004, according to Skagit County Treasurer Katie Jungquist. State law requires that payments received after that date are subject to a 1% per month interest charge. In addition, a 3% penalty is assessed if the payment is made after May 31, 2004.

Senior citizens and disabled people are reminded that if they own a residence or mobile home and are 61 years or older, or are retired because of a disability and make $30,000 or less, they may qualify for a property tax exemption.

County residents can make payments by credit card by following the instructions on the back of the tax statement. Payments can also be dropped off at the drop box located near the stairs in the parking lot behind the courthouse.

Second half property taxes are due October 31. Jungquist encourages anyone who does not have a tax statement or needs assistance in anyway to contact the Treasurer’s office at 360-336-9350 or at Treasurer@co.skagit.wa.us
