PROCLAIM APRIL DISASTER PREPAREDNESS MONTH
SKAGIT COUNTY - The Skagit County Board of Commissioners declared
April "Disaster Preparedness Month" in Skagit County. Skagit
County has experienced natural and human-caused disasters in the past,
and scientific evidence indicates the state remains vulnerable to
natural and human-caused disasters in the future.
The proclamation
urged citizens to prepare themselves to be self-sufficient for at
least three days following a natural or human-caused disaster.
The Skagit County
Department of Emergency Management, in conjunction with the Region
3 Life Safety Council and the Mount Vernon Fire Department, is working
on a disaster preparedness project for businesses as part of Disaster
Preparedness Month in April of 2003.
This year's project will include providing major employers within
Skagit County with a folder of information on how they can prepare
their business and employees for disasters during business hours.
Disaster planning of this nature will work for natural and man-made
hazards. The goal is to empower businesses and their employees by
showing that they can plan ahead to mitigate certain circumstances.
