April 5, 2021 COVID-19 Case Counts in Skagit County Showing Upward Trend
Daily COVID-19 case counts in Skagit County have been trending upward over the past several days, with daily new cases in the double-digits for the first time in nearly two weeks. Prior to this, the County’s numbers were ranging between 5-9 new cases daily, which makes this recent uptick alarming. As a reminder, Skagit County must meet the following metrics in order to remain in Phase 3 of the State’s Roadmap to Recovery reopening plan. The WA Department of Health (WA DOH) evaluates each county’s progress every three weeks, with the first evaluation scheduled for Monday, April 12. For our population size, the metrics include:
Based on Skagit County’s population size, an average of 18+ new cases per day is enough to push our County over the 200 cases/100,000 benchmark, and it would only take 7 new hospitalizations in a week for the County to move back to Phase 2. WA DOH will utilize data collected via the Risk Assessment Dashboard found here: https://coronavirus.wa.gov/what-you-need-know/roadmap-recovery-metrics. Please note that it can take several days for County-level data to appear. “We have been making really great headway recently with our case rates and vaccination numbers,” said Jennifer Johnson, Skagit County Public Health Director. “We can’t get complacent—especially as the weather gets warmer and spring and summer holidays approach. Please continue to use your preventive measures to protect yourself and loved ones. By not doing so, we run the risk of being moved back a phase.” Phase 3 requirements, indoor gatherings must be limited to 10 non-household members, and large gatherings to 50 people or less.
