MAN SENTENCED TO 136 MONTHS TO LIFE IN SKAGIT COUNTY RAPE CASE

SKAGIT COUNTY - On Thursday, March 31, 2005, Judge Susan Cook of the Skagit County Superior Court sentenced Bobby D. Colbert, age 34, to a sentence of 136 months to life after being convicted of one count of Rape in the Second Degree and one count of Rape in the Third Degree.  The offenses occurred in November, 2003 and March, 2004.

Colbert was convicted of these offenses following a seven day jury trial ending the first week of February, 2005.  The State was represented by Chief Criminal Deputy Prosecuting Attorney Dona Bracke.  Colbert was represented by Glenn Hoff of the Skagit County Public Defender’s office.

The victims were seventeen and eighteen when the offenses were committed.   Both offenses occurred in Mount Vernon, and were investigated by the Mount Vernon Police Department.

Colbert will be subject to supervision by the Department of Corrections for the rest of his life.  He will also be required to register as a sex offender for the rest of his life.

Colbert is currently being held in the Skagit County Jail pending trial for a third sexual assault case, involving a charge of Indecent Liberties.

“This is the most recent in a long line of successful sexual assault prosecutions by this office, spearheaded by Ms. Bracke, over the last two years,” said Prosecuting Attorney Tom Seguine.
