Ohlson-Kiehn appointed to Skagit County Planning Commission

SKAGIT COUNTY – The Skagit County Board of Commissioners today appointed Kristen Ohlson-Kiehn to a four-year term on the Skagit County Planning Commission. Ohlson-Kiehn is the Northwest Region Planning Coordinator for the Washington State Department of Natural Resources (DNR). She holds a Masters of Forestry degree from the Yale School of Forestry and Environmental Studies.

“Throughout my career in natural resource management, I have learned that multiple values need to be considered and balanced in order to create durable solutions,” said Ohlson-Kiehn.

In her position with DNR, Ohlson-Kiehn coordinates the development of the Northwest Region’s long-term management plans, harvest plans, and the agency’s policy and procedures.

In addition to her work at DNR, Ohlson-Kiehn has worked as a forest technician in Belize, Central America, a graduate researcher in Sri Lanka, and as a special projects coordinator for the Rainforest Alliance in New York City.

“We are very impressed by Kristen’s credentials and the local and international experience and expertise she will bring to the Planning Commission,” said Skagit County Commissioner Ken Dahlstedt.

The Skagit County Commissioners and staff reviewed 13 applications for the position.
