SKAGIT COUNTY PARKS AND RECREATION DEPARTMENT AND MOUNT VERNON TOURNAMENT COMMITTEE RECEIVE JAMES FARRELL AWARD OF EXCELLENCE

SKAGIT COUNTY – The Skagit County Parks and Recreation Department and the Mount Vernon Tournament Committee were recently awarded the 2005 James Farrell Award of Excellence from the Amateur Softball Association of America for sponsoring and operating the ASA 12 and under National Girls Fast Pitch Tournament held last August in Mount Vernon and Sedro-Woolley.

ASA Umpire Bill Silves presented the award to Skagit County Parks and Recreation Advisory Board Chair Colleen Fisher before the Skagit County Board of Commissioners, Monday, April 17, 2006 and asked that it be placed in the trophy case at the proposed Skagit County Indoor Recreation Facility upon completion.

Recognized for the award by the Skagit County Board of Commissioners from the Mount Vernon Tournament Committee were Silves, Bob Lama and Bill Loeth. Also recognized were Skagit County Parks and Recreation Department employees Dave Barber, Brian Adams, Darren Westerguard, Ben Silva, Mike McCutchin and Marshal Pederson. Recreation Manager Dennis Lind was also thanked for his many years of work in support of special events and tournaments.

According to Silves, the tournament held last summer brought more than $1 million of revenue to local hotels, shops, and restaurants.
